#jessbach

It's Tuesday and I'm finally not completely sleep deprived from a really fun gals bachelorette weekend. Time to re live and blog about it!

On Friday I drove two hours north of the city to Collingwood (a ski resort town). Now that I'm a mom and work in a busy downtown core, I really appreciate a quite drive all to myself. I also appreciate a loud drive as I blare stuff Matt’s not too excited to listen to (read: singing some T Swift & "Since you've been gone" at full volume).

It was a beautiful drive up.

On Friday night it was just the bride, her mom, the bridesmaids & the grooms mom and grandma (she is seriously the coolest grandma!). We played some silly bachelorette games that left us crying from laughing. Games that included a blind fold, spinning, planting a kiss on a blow up doll (who we reffered to as Stud Muffin or Mr.S Muffin by the end of the weekend). That fact that both moms got in on the fun was a hoot. We stayed at one of the bridesmaids amazing 7 bedroom ski chalet. She had just gotten married there a few weeks ago and when we discovered her hair extensions from the big day we decided, naturally, to make the brides mom wear them. Since there wasn't quite enough to avoid the billy ray mullet, she donned the nickname trailer Trish for the rest of the night.

On Saturday we woke up and headed to the spa. Scandinave is an outdoor waters spa. You dip into VERY cold water and then relax in the warm waters. There is also a eucalyptus sauna. and a fire pit with Muskoka chairs to dry off. It was pretty relaxing. Since it's suppose to be tranquil they have professional ssshhhhers there to shush anyone who is being too loud. We were shushed 6 times and had a little "talking to about our volume". There is something about a bunch of girls being forced to be quiet that made us all giddy and chatty and well...not so tranquil. We also had a walk around the ski village to visit cute shops. One of which was an all year Christmas store. I can't get enough of all year Christmas stores!

Once Saturday evening rolled around we were ready for a BBQ (sitting in spa pools sure do build an appetite!) and a girls night out at the village. We dressed in neon head to toe and made the bride wear a white dress with neon accessories. There were a lot of other bachelorette parties at the bar but none as bright (or loud) as us. The poutine stand was hit on the way back tot eh chalet  which was a great ending to a fun weekend with one of my best friends and some newly made friends too. One of the bridesmaids created a hash tag for the event. This seems to be popular for weddings and parties and it's a great way to share photo's and instagram the night away together. So on that note, #jessbach.

On Sunday I rolled out (literally) early because I had to pick up Holden and Matt and head to the cystic fibrosis charity walk my dad was hosting. It's not often Holden, Matt and I spend a weekend apart. It made my heart swell to see how excited they were when I got home. I was so happy to see them that it motivated me to get through the day despite the major lack of sleep I was running on.

It was a beautiful drive home, to my beautiful little family. A great weekend overall.

Friday Fuzzies

I'm looking down at my neon pink nails thinking about the weekend that starts in a few hours. I'm headed north of the city to this spa for an all girls bachelorette weekend and of course, to continue celebrating my good friend Jess. Since we decided against the traditional route of bridesmaids/bride sashes when we storm out together this weekend, we're instead going to wear all neon. The bride just doesn’t know it yet (hot pink arm "warmers" anyone?). On Sunday I'm headed back to the city to participate in a charity walk for Cystic Fibrosis. I'm sure by the end of this wild weekend I'll be absolutely knackered.

Hope you have fun plans too!

Stay Golden

This was a casual outfit I threw on to play and blow bubbles in the park with Holden and Matt. My favourite thing about it? The little hints of gold in the sweater (which fits a little loose and is insanely comfortable) and the fact that the entire outfit is $25! (it's also entirely Forever 21 - no plug here, just a great store for affordable clothes). If you don't own a pair of Forever 21's stretchy jeans (a little thicker than jeggings) you should probably think about getting on that. They come in a variety of hues and are $12. You heard right. $12. I picked up this sweater on sale recently for $6.99. I try to pick up a few winter sweaters in the spring. They're on sale this time of year and I know I’ll get use out of them when the cold weather comes around again (because we all know it's coming around again). It's also a nice surprise when the winter weather is back and you find a "new' sweater you haven't worn much yet. My shoes were also on sale for $6.00. I should have bought them in other colours because they are dang cute and great for kicking around in.

Phone Scenes

Sorry, it’s been a few days folks. I got swept away by the sunshine and my sweet little family. We had an amazing long weekend outside. Matt has started teaching Holden how to skateboard because he begged us to learn this past winter (something tells me they’ll be spending many a Saturday morning together at the skate park) and I’m learning how to control my nerves as I see my little guy trying big boy stuff. I guess it helps that it’s pretty adorable. On Sunday, we took the ferry over to Toronto Island to picnic with friends and yesterday, since Matt had to work, Holden and I packed up lunch, books, a blanket and went park hopping. We hit a record of 4 across the city and played multiple games of pretend Harry Potter Quidditch. Time with him is just glorious. Here’s some life lately through my, what else, phone.

Curled my hair for a girls night out with some friends from University. It's funny, helping each other through heartache in your early 20's and then still be close friends when you're all either married, or getting married or waiting for that proposal. I'm happy my girlfriends have found great men to share their lives with.
Holden and Matt were such troopers on Mother’s day. They explored the city with me, took me into some stores I like and walked them patiently while I browsed. I didn’t make them suffer through it for long but the fact that they offered out of love made my day.

My little skater boy.

Loving the signage at the new Brandy Melville on Queen Street (also yay! we finally have a Brandy Melville).

Our city, at sunset.

My little guy learning to skateboard. Like his dad, he's much cooler than me.
An outfit for a Arbonne cosmetics party. Have you guys tried the Arbonne products? They are amazing. No sponsorship here just love for a good product. I noticed a difference in my skin within the first try. That never happens!

So there you have it. Some i-life lately.

GLMR KLLS

Happy Thursday (& almost Friday of a long weekend!). It's beautiful and sunny here in Toronto. I had an audtion this morning and then a surprise sushi date with Matt (whata way to get the day going). Hope everyone else is having jsut as good a Thursday.

I really like the Glamour Kills appearal, it's obviosuly a little hipster since it's music appearal & can be found at Urban Outfitters but the designs often make me laugh - like a cat riding a skateboard here.

A independat skate shop on Queen St had a rack of Glm Klls clothing on sale and I snapped this top for $10. A bargain. This Glmr Klls logo reminds me of the 90210 logo (the orginal series) and watchng it in my friends basement since I wasn't allowed to watch it at home (and feeling a little guilty as I soaked in every Dylan and Kelly Taylor moment).

Neon Glow

I've always loved the colour coral. People talk about your colour tones and which are right for you and yadda yadda but all I'm usually thinking is "black. black always works. always". The truth is that sometimes you'll wear a colour and it really does flatter you and suit you and bring out your best complexion. I don't own a lot of red and corals but when I do wear them I tend to get told "that’s your colour".  As part of my promise to add a little brightness to my wardrobe, when I saw this top I thought it would be a perfectly bold but still casual addition to the closet. I love how it almost glows. In some of the photos the colour reflects off of my skin. Yes, black is easy, but this is more fun.

Skirt into spring

Lately I find myself rummaging through my drawer in the mornings trying to find skirts for work which suit this time of year. Given how long I'm sporting winter outfits over the cold Canadian months, I have a ton of winter skirts for the picking. When summer comes around though, I somehow convince myself that because I have taken off my tights, my winter skirts are now summer skirts. Which is so, so wrong. I have a lot of great summer casual skirts (I've said it before on here, my favourite wear, is weekend wear) but I'm looking for some great pieces that will be lighter to wear and have subtle hints of colour & prints to add to spring/summer work wardrobe. Tweed, neon, and floral prints are everywhere right now. These pieces incorporate those trends but are still dressy enough for work.

If you're like me and black is always a go to in your closet, adding a little lace, leather or a colour block to your black is a good way to transition the colour for summer.

Do you have any go to skirts for spring/summer? When the weather warms up it's a great excuse to add a little colour. The day I can stop wearing tights for a few months, is a good, good day.

Friday Fuzzies

My fuzzies today are inspired by Mother's Day weekend. It's extra fun now that I've been getting to celebrate for the past four years along side my mom :)
I hope for some time in the sunshine with my family, some quiet time for tea (and maybe a high tea brunch with my mum!) and a relaxing, peaceful Sunday. Those lucky enough to be a mom or to get to see their own mothers this weekend - I hope it's special.

(Holden has been bringing me dandelions on a daily basis. I hardly have the heart to throw them away so I find them dried up on my desk at work, in the car, in my purse. It makes me happy).
Happy Weekend.
