This past weekend I helped host a Stag and Doe for one my oldest and dearest friends, Jessica. We have been friends since I forced her to go skateboarding with me in grade one. I must have had a short lived tom boy streak back then because we spent the rest of our friendship playing dolls, Barbie’s and make believe - until probably great 8. Yup, while some girls were wearing low rise jeans, kissing behind portables and hanging around the boys on the basketball court, Jess and I are were wearing Northern Getaway and fighting over whose turn it was to have Jonathan Taylor Thomas as their fake husband. We were happy to be nerds together, it meant we didn't have to grow up too fast and always had exciting adventures which we now laugh endlessly to ourselves over. To think, she's getting married soon and I've been married for 5 years. While neither of us actually ended up marrying JTT, I have some pretty great ammo for a wedding speech :) I know I sound like a grandma here, but time really sure does fly!
Jess just got back from living in Europe (Scotland and England) because her finance plays professional hockey there. They wanted their Stag and Doe to be a British theme, costumes and all. Though Jess and I did love the Spice girls and dressed up as them more times than we'd like to admit, I wanted something less predicatable for the party.
Lauren Conrad is already a fashion inspiration so I went to pictures of her for costume inspiration to. Here's what I found:
A modern day Mary P!
Matt accidentally deleted photo's from our camera so I thought I'd share some from my iPhone.
I thought it turned out pretty well. The only thing I had to buy was the bow tie which Matt will be gifted with now ($12) and the flowers for my hat ($3) . It's great if you can put a costume together from pieces you already have - because let's be honest, when are you going to wear a Harry Potter cloak or full body suit and cape again?
You may notice the umbrella is missing! I had a perfect polka dot one to match my blouse but forgot it in the city (these were taken at my parents house). Carrying an umbrella around a party all night would not have been fun but the vintage purse works perfectly (and of course necessary to carry the medicine, the spoon and the sugar!)
Since I don't have my camera photo's, I'll tell you that the bride to be was a pretty impressive Amy Whinehouse - she may still be trying to straighen her teased hair.
