Weekday Shimmer

Sometimes, you just need to wear a little bling. This is my absolute favourite necklace. It's one of those pieces that when I wear it, strangers stop to ask where I bought it. I saw an almost identical necklace late last year at J Crew for around $150 and found this one at Urban Outfitters for $40. I decided to treat myself to it for Christmas and leave it under the tree from Santa. Thanks Santa, it's been a gift that's kept on giving.

Combined with my slightly shimmering top, I brought a little J-Lo to work with me. Ok ok, maybe people won't start singing "Love don't cost a thing" when I walk by but I feel a little more glamorous with some sparkle.

Friday Fuzzies

Well, these were nearly Saturday Fuzzies. It was a busy day folks but none the less, I hope these pictures make you feel warm and fuzzy and calm and ready to face this glorious thing I call the weekend. May everyone have time for their comfy spot and toast and tea (whatever your fancy) at some point tomorrow morning because let's be honest, Saturday mornings were made for just that.

(Can you smell summer? because I can smell lilacs just looking at this photo)

Common Sort

I mentioned in this post that I found a really cute vintage store along our city wanderings. It's called Common Sort and is small enough that it's not overwhelming but packed with really great stuff. I mean really great. They had a vintage Diane Von Furstenberg skirt that was like "Hey Lauren, you know you want to". Unfortunately it was not in my size. The ladies who run the shop have a great eye for finding vintage pieces that aren't toooo old lady esque (you know what I mean?) but still pretty on trend.

I found this tee and loved the blue colour and thought the print was rad as well. Best of all it was only $12.  I won't buy much in vintage stores unless the piece is really unique or the price is right. Otherwise I like the hunt of going to thrift stores myself.

Good work Common Sort for finding the goodies for us. Plus bonus points for having an adorable business card.

Colour Blocked

If you work in an office that's corporate and pretty conservative it can be hard to find outfits you really enjoy wearing because it they put a big ol' thumb down on your creativity. When I'm buying clothes for work I hunt for pieces that have hints of trends but are still subtle enough for the office. It's hard to get away with really bright colours and colour blocking is still a really popular trend right now. This little numbah has the idea of blocking without much...colour. You can't go wrong with navy, cream and grey and those tones blocked together really makes them pop. My favourite detail though is the hint of shoulder padding.

Toy Shoppe

As I mentioned on here Friday, I went to an annual Charity Fashion show this weekend. It's held by a private college and raises money for Cystic Fibrosis. CF runs in my family and my amazing dad has volunteered with the organization for over 35 years. I try to get out and support as many events as I can. Clothes + money for charity = only a win.

I brought my phone as a camera so that was a bit of a fail. My dad has better photos on his actual camera so once I have those I'll post them here.

The theme of the show was Toy Shoppe and as you can imagine by the name there were lot's of bright colours and fun pieces for spring.

In the meantime, here are some spring trends shown in the show from stores and boutiques around the city and some similar, affordable options, i've found from around the web.

For the guys

NOMAD is a mens clothing shop in Toronto that was featured in the show. These are some of my favourite pieces because they are just too good.

For the kiddos

Jacardi Paris is one adorable children's clothing stores but based on the prices it's a "wear this to church/work BBQ/Christmas/Easter/any time you won't totally destroy it under my strict watch" They had some cute little ones modelling some of these amazing outfits.

If any of my wonderful followers or blog browsers are interested in learning more about or donating to Cystic Fibrosis, you can find more info here.

Saturday Stripes

I'm home today with a little guy that's feeling under the weather. While he rests on the couch I'm busy catching up on all of the (not so) fun chores. Even as I play Cinderelly, I'm happy to be home with my little man. This morning when I saw him he said to me (through his sickness) "good morning my gorgeous mama" Ha! What a little sweetheart at only 4 years old.

I picked up this sweater at Winners a few weeks ago. It's hard to tell from the photos but it's a light weight, thin material (almost see through). Perfect for spring cool days or summer cool nights. It was the perfect cardigan to throw on this past weekend.

Friday Fuzzies

Happy Friday! I'm pooped and dreaming of a good movie and a comfy couch this evening - you feel me?

I'm headed to a charity fashion show with my dad on Saturday (he's the president of the Peel Cystic Fibrosis Foundation). Looking forward to the pieces all of the young designers have come up with & the donations which will be going to a great cause. Hopefully I'll be able to share some pics of the event on here next week.

Make it special!
